Sparebite

A calorie wallet, not a calorie diary.

Start each day with a calorie budget. Eating spends it, workouts deposit calories back, and the one number you check is what is left, like a bank balance. It lives on your home screen.

How it works

Budget, spend, earn back

Three simple ideas. The number on your home screen does the rest.

  1. Get a daily budget

Answer a few questions and get a suggested budget. Change it, or type your own number.

  2. Eating spends it

Scan a label, search a food or type the calories. The balance drops, the way a bank balance does.

  3. Workouts pay some back

Workouts from Apple Health or Health Connect deposit calories back, at a rate you choose.

The number

One number on your home screen

Open the app, or do not. The widget shows what is left today, the way a banking app shows a balance. No dashboard to read, no macros to decode. Going over is not an error: the number turns a calm amber and tomorrow is a fresh budget.

The deposit

Workouts deposit calories back, at a rate you choose

Wrist trackers estimate calories burned, and estimates are rough. So Sparebite credits only part of what your watch reports, and you pick how much to trust it: 50%, 75% or 100%. The math is always on screen, one tap away.

Credit rate

Garmin reported 410 kcal · credited at 75% = +308

75% is the default. Every credit shows its source and its math.

The learning

It learns your real metabolism

Every week, Sparebite compares what you logged with how your weight trend actually moved, then suggests a small budget change. Credits are part of that estimate, so if a rate is too generous, the budget corrects itself. You decide whether to accept.

Honest by design

No tricks, in plain words

  • No ads. There are no ad networks in the app, and there never will be a banner between you and your number.
  • Your health data is never sold. We do not sell it, and we do not hand it to advertisers or data brokers.
  • Export and delete, anytime. Take everything out as CSV or JSON, or delete it all from Settings: type DELETE to confirm, and it is gone from our servers.
  • Honest pricing. The wallet, food logging and the home-screen number are free. Premium is optional and adds extras.

Questions, answered

Does earning calories back make me overeat?

It can, if credits are inflated, which is why they are not. Wrist trackers can be off by a wide margin, so Sparebite credits only a share of what your watch reports (75% by default) and shows the math for every workout. Each week your budget is also checked against your real weight trend, so a rate that is too generous leads to a lower suggested budget instead of quietly piling up. The rate is yours to set, any time.

Do I need a watch, and which ones work?

No. Sparebite works fully without one: set a budget, log food, watch the number. A watch or band adds workout credits. We read workouts from Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android, so anything that writes there should work: Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit and Pixel Watch, Samsung, Whoop, Oura, Polar and more. Huawei on Android is a gap we are measuring.

What happens when I go over budget?

Nothing bad. The number turns amber, shows how far over you are, and tomorrow starts with a fresh budget. There are no red warnings, no streaks to lose and no failed days.

How is my daily budget set, and is this medical advice?

Sparebite suggests a starting budget from your age, height, weight and activity, and you can change it or type your own number. It is a planning tool, not medical advice. If you have a medical condition or a history of disordered eating, talk to a professional about your targets.

Where can I use it?

On your phone or in your browser. Get the app from the App Store or Google Play, or open the web app and create an account. The iPhone and Android apps add what a browser cannot do: scanning nutrition labels with the camera, syncing workouts from Apple Health or Health Connect, and the home-screen widget.

Try your own calorie wallet

Open the app and see what is left today. On your phone it scans labels, syncs workouts from Apple Health or Health Connect, and puts the number on your home screen.
