Who we are
Sparebite (the website sparebite.com, the web app and the iPhone and Android apps) is run by RUSU D. DINU-ȘTEFAN PFA, trading as CodingShadows, CUI RO50977819, registered in Romania. Contact: contact@codingshadows.com. By using Sparebite or creating an account you agree to these terms.
The service
Sparebite is a calorie budget: a daily amount that the food you log spends and the workouts you record earn back. Calorie and nutrition values, label scans and described meals are estimates. Treat them as helpful approximations, not measurements. We improve the service over time, so features may change.
Not medical advice
Sparebite is a planning tool for general wellness. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition and it is not a substitute for a doctor or a registered dietitian. Do not use it if you are pregnant, under medical supervision for your diet, or have or suspect an eating disorder, unless a professional agrees. Talk to a qualified professional before changing how you eat or train.
Your account
You must be at least 16 years old. Keep your sign-in details safe; you are responsible for what happens in your account. You can export your data and delete your account at any time in Settings. What deletion removes and what is kept is described on the Delete account page.
Free and Premium
The wallet is free. Sparebite Premium adds the features listed on the paywall before you buy: today the adaptive budget, logging a meal by describing it, unlimited second reads of hard labels, the medium widget and your full history. AI features have fair daily limits that keep the service fast for everyone.
Subscriptions, trial and renewal
Premium is an auto-renewing subscription, yearly or monthly. The price is shown in your currency before you confirm; in the eurozone it is 39.99 EUR a year or 5.99 EUR a month, and other countries pay the store's local price. In the iPhone and Android apps, new subscribers to the yearly plan get a 14-day free trial; if you do not cancel before it ends, the first year is charged. On the web there is no trial. Payment is taken when you confirm, or when the trial ends. The subscription renews for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Premium stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
Managing and cancelling
Subscriptions bought in the App Store are managed and cancelled in your Apple account settings, and those bought in Google Play in the Play Store under Subscriptions. Subscriptions bought on the web are managed through the link in Settings. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
Payments and refunds
In the iPhone app, Apple processes the payment; in the Android app, Google does. On the web, RevenueCat runs the subscription and Stripe processes the payment as the reseller (merchant of record) and issues the receipt. Refunds for store purchases follow the store's policy and are requested from Apple or Google. For web purchases, write to contact@codingshadows.com. When a paid period starts, you ask us to provide Premium immediately, which ends the 14-day EU right of withdrawal for that period; mandatory consumer rights in your country are not affected.
Fair use
Do not misuse Sparebite: no scraping, no automated or bulk requests, no attempts to get around limits or the paywall, no reverse engineering, and nothing unlawful. We may suspend an account that does.
Your content and our sources
The foods, workouts and weights you log stay yours. You give us only the rights needed to store, sync and show them back to you. Food reference data includes USDA FoodData Central (public domain) and Open Food Facts (Open Database License). Sparebite, its design and its code belong to CodingShadows.
Apple and Google
If you downloaded Sparebite from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for Sparebite or its support.
Liability
We run Sparebite with care, but provide it as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for intent, gross negligence or harm to life and health.
Changes and ending
If we change these terms, we tell you in the app or by email with reasonable notice before the change applies to you. You can stop using Sparebite and delete your account at any time. If we ever close the service, we tell you at least 30 days ahead and stop renewals.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Romanian law. If you are a consumer in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and may bring a claim in its courts. Please write to contact@codingshadows.com first; most issues are solved there.
